This Claddagh and Trinity Cross Pendant has been created using the Claddagh symbol of the heart and hands to form the cross section. The Claddagh heart sits in the centre of the cross. The shaft of the cross is decorated with Celtic knotwork.

The Irish Celtic Cross has been a symbol of faith for centuries in Ireland whether the belief is pagan, Christian or another religion. However, it is widely known as a powerful symbol of Irish heritage. Originally crafted in stone, Celtic crosses predate Christianity and in pagan times the circle of the cross represented the sun.

The Claddagh dates to the 17th century and originated in the village of Claddagh in County Galway, Ireland. Legend has it that Richard Joyce, a Galway native, was captured and sold to slavery in North Africa. However, Joyce found himself slave to a Turkish Goldsmith, and from his master he learned and excelled at the craft.

Joyce was finally released after 14 years. However, the Goldsmith he was working for was so impressed by his work that he offered his daughters hand in marriage to him. He also offered half of his property to try and get him to stay. But Joyce refused the offer and returned to Galway, where his sweetheart awaited him. But while in captivity, he had made what we now know as the Claddagh Ring especially for her. For centuries the Claddagh Ring this was used as a wedding ring by the fisher folk of Claddagh village.

This  10k Claddagh and Trinity Cross Pendant would make a great gift for yourself or a good friend.
