The Leprechauns are Irish and the Brownies are Scottish, they are kissing cousins and at about half past summer each year they get together to indulge in a game of chess. They play up and down the country covering the 32 counties of Ireland on this special thirty two county of Ireland chess board, Have they been to your county yet? 

The Pieces

The Toadstool acts as the castle and the gateway to Tir Na Nog ( The Land of the of eternal youth) Failte over the door is a welcome to all to play the game. 

Sean is the knight with his shamrock and shillelagh in hand to defend us and keep away the people who want us to grow up, it is over rated. 

Fergal is the bishop who has his book of fairy stories to help us when we are a little lost, a good story keeps the faith in Tir Na Nog and hope for the future. 

Brian is the King on his throne deciding which county to go to first, which one will have the warmest welcome and trying to remember which welcome was a little too warm last time, with his gold at his side that goes to the winner. 

Maeve is the Queen with her crown of shamrocks and magical harp. Once she starts to play they will all march to her tune as she amuses herself with the thoughts that Brian thinks he is in charge. 

While Paddy the pawn sits on the shamrock leaf with shillelagh in-hand wondering... will this game ever get started
